The time has come to review the company Prepaid Legal. They are a company, that for a monthly fee, one obtains a membership which provides legal counsel whenever necessary. Prepaid Legal Service was founded in 1969 by Harland Stonecipher. Although it did not begin as a network marketing company, it did join the MLM industry in the 1980s. By 1999, Prepaid Legal was the 33rd fastest growing company on the New York Stock Exchange. They have also been listed on Forbes 200 best small companies list.
So how does Prepaid Legal work? As a customer, you purchase an annual membership for around $300 per year. Plans are available at either $17 a month or $26 a month. The plan gives you access to legal advice on everything from creating a will, purchasing a home or just knowing your legal rights in any situation. Over 60,000 legal forms are available to members on the website with just a click of the mouse. Basically, a member can call the number on the membership card and receive a callback from a lawyer in the area of expertise that they require. Plans vary by state. <<– Just In Case You Care!
Why would someone want to use Prepaid Legal Services? I suppose that it might be easier to call this one number than to scour the Yellow Pages looking for the type of phone number that you need. The company also suggest that while the wealthiest 10% of people use lawyers for every major decision, the rest of us do not and this is not always to our advantage. Do I think this a necessary service?
I’m not sure what my opinion is on it, but over 1 million people have decided that Prepaid Legal is for them.
Now, if one is interested in having a Prepaid Legal business, there is a little more involved. Apparently, the only way you can join, is by filling out an application for enrollment through their website. It costs $49 to start up a business and this includes materials, training, support, a Prepaid Legal Marketing Services, marketing supplies and Online Associate Services. Right now, Prepaid Legal is really touting their timing in the industry. The state they are at 2/10 of 1% of growth potential and don’t anticipate critical mass hitting until 2%. Critical Mass is when a company reaches a point where they grow tremendously in a short amount of time. As I have said before, it is usually good to join a company before they hit critical mass in order to maximize your income potential.
As for the compensation plan, I found it a bit difficult to understand. It seems that they pay Prepaid Legal Associates in three different ways. The first way to get paid is by getting commissions on every membership to Prepaid Legal that you sell. The second way to get paid is when you sign-up other people into the business and receive commissions for that. The third and final way is that you make residual income on any commissions earned by your team members when they sign up people into the business and/or sell memberships to Prepaid Legal. The part that confused me was that they pay on five different levels according to how many memberships you sell per month. And on these memberships they pay you in advance commission on a one-year basis. For example, if I sell a Prepaid Legal membership to someone, I get paid a years worth of commission. But, if that person cancels their membership before the year is up I will get what is called a “chargeback”. A chargeback is basically what it sounds like. You have to pay back any commissions earned by member cancels early. I’m not a huge fan of this type of compensation plan.
Traditionally, when we join a company like Prepaid Legal, we are going to be taught to approach every person you’ve ever known and try to get them to either sign on as a member or join your team. Let’s face it folks, this is the hard way of doing things. Wouldn’t you rather talk to people that actually care about joining a network marketing company? Wouldn’t you rather use a pain-free, surefire way to gain success in this industry?
So, whether or not you join Prepaid Legal doesn’t really matter. You can join any company you want. However, if you don’t have the skills necessary to attract hundreds and thousands of people into your organization YOU WILL FAIL!
